Lilia Caiado Couto holds a PhD in Energy Economics and Climate Change from University College London, where she also serves as an Honorary Research Fellow. She is a Program Manager for Climate Finance and Development at the Open Society Foundations in London. Previously, she was a Research Fellow for climate economics and finance at the Global Economy and Finance program at Chatham House – Royal Institute of International Affairs. She served as a Chapter Scientist and Contributing Author for economics and finance at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the 6th Assessment Report cycle. She holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a master's degree in Energy Planning from COPPE/UFRJ. She worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Applied Economic Research for two periods and served as a consultant for the UN Environment from 2014 to 2016. Couto coordinated the areas of climate change and sustainable finance at the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) from 2015 to 2017. She also worked as an economist at Vivid Economics in London, was a Fellow of the Climate CoLab initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and served as a climate economics expert advisor at Cervest – Earth Science AI.
